17th-century Austrian school in the style of Frans van Stampart (1675-1750) Portrait of Elisabeth-Christine of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Empress of the Holy Roman Empire. Oil on original canvas. Wooden frame and gilded stucco (accident). 53.5 x 43.5 cm The Empress poses in court dress in a palace next to a small Moorish page, and places her hand on the insignia of power. The double-headed eagle is embroidered with jewels on her bust. This portrait is similar to the one by Frans van Stampart, whose hairstyle is identical. Empress of the Holy Roman Empire, Queen of Germania and Bohemia through her marriage to Charles VI of Habsburg, she was also the mother of Maria Theresa of Austria and the grandmother of French Queen Marie-Antoinette.
