Augsburg, Zanna, 1818. 73 x 138 cm - Unusual overview map by the historian Friedrich Strass (1766-1845) uses the depiction of rivers as a metaphor for the flow of time. The various epochs and rulers are shown, beginning with prehistoric times and ending with the year 1829 at the bottom of the map. Friedrich Strass became famous with his 1804 illustration 'River of Time', which was published several times up to 1816. The same 'rivers' on this overview map, but with a decorative landscape depiction with staffage of people in the upper part of the image - mounted on linen - somewhat browned and creased, some partially backed (marginal) tears or repairs, 1 small loss.
