With 17 (1 on the title) folio-sized metal engravings and 28 small metal engravings in the text. 8°. Flex. Pgt. d. Bohatta 958; cf. Brunet V, 1669, no. 358 (mentions an edition of 1511).- Rare book of hours for use in Rome, printed on vellum and with illustrations from the workshop of the Parisian illuminator Jean Pichore, who was active between 1502 and 1521. In addition to large commissions for Cardinal d'Amboise, Pichore also published two printed books of hours. Nicolas Vivien, a Parisian bookseller and publisher, was active around 1504-1517 in the Rue Neuve Notre Dame under the sign of the crown and specialized in the publication and sale of books of hours - in addition to our edition, further editions were published in Paris in the same year by Hardouyn and Godard. The illustrated title shows the Holy Grail, the metal cuts in the text with portraits of the evangelists and saints, the carefully printed type area (with 29 lines) furthermore with very numerous initials heightened in gold with rubrications in red and blue.- With inscription dated 1624 on the first white leaf.- Slight spotting in places.
