Typographic mark to title page and at end of volume, 15 woodcut figures in text byJakob Kallenberg, Bernese painter and engraver (small woodworm holes.) Eighteenth-century leather binding with gold friezes and fillets (spine anciently redone with small ironwork decoration). First work of literary importance and one of the first ever imprinted in Bern by the first printer active in the Swiss capital. Also only illustrated edition of the sixteenth-century work.

Vignette engraved by Alessandro dalla Via on the first title page printed in red and black, portrait of the author, portrait of Clelia Grilla-Borromeo, to whom the chapter on "marine bodies" is dedicated, and 85 copper-engraved and partly folded plates (a few small tears and sporadic flourishes.) Coeval vellum binding with manuscript title on spine, splash cuts (small defects to covers). Profusely illustrated anthology of theoperations ofVallisneri, some of which are first editions. (3)
