Engraved plates by Defehrt, LeMire, Tardieu, Chevilet, Fonbonne and others after L.S. Adam. 4°. Beautiful hardcover with red boards and floral reredos, gilt-stamped linear cover fillets with corner fleurons and full gilt edges (somewhat bumped and rubbed).- The sculptor Adam acquired the illustrated statues from the heirs of Cardinal de Polignac, who had previously commissioned him to restore them. The numbering of the plates proves to be ambiguous, as some other copies from 1754 are listed with a total of 60 plates, an edition from 1755 has a total of 62 plates, and some editions do not have an engraved table of contents. Our copy is numbered 59 and 3 plates - Wide margins. A few plates somewhat browned, occasional small (foxing) spots in the wide white outer margin.
