Blue and white porcelain figure of Kanzan, mounted as a lamp, Japan, 19th century Kanzan, wearing a kimono with blue underglaze enamel decoration featuring tsuru (red-headed cranes), stylized clouds and precious objects, holds a calligraphic scroll and looks at it with a smile. He is mounted on an eight-legged octagonal copper-alloy base, behind which rises a curved stem imitating a bamboo tree, ending in a large parasol. Height: 28.2 cm Small chip. Kanzan, whose name means "cold mountain", was a Zen poet who sought inspiration in nature. Although they look very much alike, he is easily distinguishable from his alter ego Jittoku, as he always holds a scroll of parchment in his hands.
