Yellow and green enameled terra cotta Buddha, China, Ming period, Wanli period, 16th century Consisting of three parts, a mandorla on which is engraved the inscription "a good day of the fifth month of the twelfth year of the Wanli era" (1585), a yellow and green enamelled octagonal base with moulded decoration of confronting dragons and finally a Buddha whose body is yellow enamelled and whose headdress is green enamelled, seated in dyanasana, hands resting on the sternum, one on the other, thumbs raised and touching, sketching an uttarabodhi mudra with the thumbs. Height: 43 cm
