ESPAGNE, XVIe siècle.

Chevalier de Moya family. A vellum document of an inheritance lawsuit concerning the de Moya family from the town of Jaen in Andalusia, written between 1563 and 1565, in Spanish. The second and third pages are decorated with illuminations featuring, among other things, a Virgin and Child, a horse fight and the coat of arms of the Moya knights. Mostly Gothic calligraphy in black ink. At the end, various clerical signatures and the note "Sobre carta executoria apedimiento de diego de moya y su madre vezinos de la ciudad de Jaén. - This letter was executed at the express request of Diego de Moya and his mother, inhabitants of the city of Jaen". In-folio format. Approx. 120 pages. H. 35 x W. 24 cm (closed). History The de Moya family has many branches throughout Spain, most of which have been active in the Reconquista since the 12th century. This branch was ennobled in 1522 in the person of Diego de Moya, son of Martin de Fernandez de Moya and Catalina Fernandez.
