Lot of 13 files containing appointements by the Service du Grand Chambellan de l'Empereur, sometimes signed by the first chamberlain comte de Rémusat (1762-1823), concerning the Emperor's first singer Giuseppina Grassini (1773-1850), the castrato singer Girolamo Crescentini (1762-1846), the composer and former music teacher to Empress Marie-Louise Ferdinando Paër (1771-1839) and his wife, the 1st tenor Antonio Brizzi (1770-1854). Documents dated 1808 to 1813. Approx. 70 folio pages. History These are the salaries of Emperor Napoleon's favorite artists, whose music never ceased to move him. Giuseppina Grassini, a sublime contralto, was his mistress when he was First Consul, and so the Parisian public was offered to her; Girolamo Crescentini, a moving castrato, had sung at the coronation ceremony, and was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown for his artistic achievement; the Paër couple and tenor Brizzi so charmed the Emperor during a performance in Germany that he immediately appointed them composer and singers of the imperial theater.
