Joachim MURAT (1767-1815), beau-frère de Napoléon, roi de Naples.

L.S. "J Napoléon" to the Duc de Feltre. Naples, January 3, 1811. Half-page in-4, engraved portrait of Murat sealed at the bottom of the letter. Relating to the request for leave of absence from François-Marie Dufour (1769-1815), general in the service of the Neapolitan Army since 1807: (...) "M. le Gal Dufour m'ayant exposé que l'âge très avancé de son père exigeait qu'il se rendit près de lui, je vous préviens que je lui ai accordé un congé dont vous détermineerez la durée; il est avec appointemens (...)". Made a baron de l'Empire in June 1812, Dufour took part in the Russian campaign, where he was wounded at Borodino, then distinguished himself by capturing the Kremlin. He then took part in the German campaign of 1813, where he was promoted to divisional officer, and the French campaign of 1814.
