Sunspots on 22 June 1885 Observatoire de Paris, 1885 (-1950) Later silver print, 240x180 mm, printed 1950 one of the earliest photographs of a Solar active region, taken by Jules Janssen on 22 June 1885 at the Observatoire de Meudon (Paris, France). In addition to the sunspots and pores of the active region, the granulation pattern of the solar surface can clearly be seen. The photograph recorded a very large field of view, and parts of it appear blurred because of the effects of atmospheric turbulence.
