Tapis - Tibet (1920-1930)

Thick, hand-woven and hand-knotted wool saddle blanket in Tibet with multicolored geometric decoration. Placed between the saddle and the horse, the blanket softened the weight of the saddle and protected the horse from the cold. Perfect condition. 127 x 85 cm. Provenance: Sandro VOLTA Collection (1900-1986) and descendants. Sandro VOLTA was a writer, journalist and art collector, who wrote the preface to his friend Tristan Tzara's "Manifeste du dadaïsme". Part of his collection was sold by Maître Rheims at Hôtel Drouot on May 16 and 17, 1957. From 1925 to 1932, he was a correspondent for the newspaper LA STAMPA in China and Tibet.
