Tapis - Tibet (1900-1920)

Tibetan hand-woven and hand-knotted wool rug decorated with stylized lotus flowers. The lotus flower is sacred to Buddhists. It represents purity of mind and body, the spiritual awakening of rising above life's obstacles and adversities, like the lotus that grows in a muddy pond before blooming with wonder. Good condition. Dimensions: 150 x 90 cm. Provenance: Sandro VOLTA Collection (1900-1986) and descendants. Sandro VOLTA was a writer, journalist and art collector, who wrote the preface to his friend Tristan Tzara's "Manifesto of Dadaism". Part of his collection was sold by Maître Rheims at Hôtel Drouot on May 16 and 17, 1957. From 1925 to 1932, he was a correspondent for the newspaper LA STAMPA in China and Tibet.
