Tapis - Tibet (1900-1920)

Thick wool rug hand-woven and knotted in Tibet. The border, decorated with Buddhist symbols, frames a dragon's head above a band of Lishui (beautiful primordial waters) from which emerge the three sacred peaks. Good condition. 63 x 72 cm Provenance: Sandro VOLTA Collection (1900-1986) and descendants. Sandro VOLTA, writer, journalist and art collector, signed the preface to his friend Tristan Tzara's "Manifesto of Dadaism". On May 16 and 17, 1957 at Hôtel Drouot, part of his collection was sold by Maître Rheims. Sansdro VOLTA was a correspondent for the newspaper LA STAMPA in China and Tibet from 1925 to 1932.
