EXCEPTIONAL PAIR OF 20th CENTURY HERCULANUM DEER SCULPTURES IN BRONZE Attributed to the Chiurazzi firm. Patinated bronze of young deer after the antique. Good condition Height: 78 cm Width: 70 cm Depth: 30 cm Sold by designation This pair of young stags is a reproduction of the same dimensions as the originals conserved in the Archaeological Museum of Naples under inventory numbers 4888 and 4886. These 1st-century AD Roman sculptures were discovered in the Villa dei Papyri during an exploration campaign that lasted from 1750 to 1765 outside the site of Herculaneum. They were reproduced by the Chiurazzi foundry at the end of the 19th century and appear in their catalog.
