ERNEST ROGER FONDS (1864-1943), PIONEER OF RADIO IN FRANCE A student at Louis Le Grand for his humanities, his studies at the Faculty of Science enabled him to carry out analyses of chemistry and electricity with his brother Henri Roger (known as Henri Roger-Violet). At the age of 21, as secretary to a physicist and member of the Académie des Sciences, he was initiated into the secrets of magnetic waves and electric currents. His many experiments enabled him to pioneer the transmission of power by electricity between Paris and Creil. He was responsible for the first wireless telegraphy transmission in 1898, launched from the Eiffel Tower to the Pantheon (4 km away), picked up by a receiver connected only to a gas burner, and automatically by a Morse receiver on E. Ducretet's equipment. Provenance: Ernest Roger family collection, his descendants in the Loire Valley. "CAHIER de LABORATOIRE et d'EXPERIENCES kept by Ernest ROGER, Ducretet engineer from 1885 until his death in 1943. 399 pages including 155 handwritten by several editors (with sketches, photos, plan on blue paper) kept until January 1941; with 2 photos, 1 map - and alphabetical index from A to Z. 27.5 x 23 cm.
