* René FOLLET (1931-2020) Bob Morane, La piste de l'Ivoire, illustration hors texte n°1, planche 31 Gouache, ink, acrylic on paper Signed RF With tracing paper for printing indications, and on verso a preparatory color study Slight tears to lower left corner Height 41 cm - Width 30 cm Bob Morane A multi-talented adventurer whose adventures began in 1953 under the pen of Henri Vernes, Bob Morane has been represented by numerous artists (Vance, Attanasio, Forton...), both on the covers of novels and in comic strip adaptations. Pierre Joubert (1910-2002), the first to represent him at Marabout, collaborated with René Follet on "La vie de Jean Mermoz", and subsequently on several Bob Morane comic strip adventures in the 1970s, where Follet produced numerous character sketches and backgrounds. Twenty years later, publisher Claude Lefrancq commissioned René Follet to design several covers for the Bob Morane novels, proving himself a worthy heir to his predecessor. As author Henri Vernes put it, "Follet is a summit! Probably the only one worthy of succeeding artists like Joubert or Vance. He really is one of the great masters of illustration!
