Large rapier Wrought iron mount. Watermarked iron fuse (later). Spherical onion-shaped pommel with jointed arch and two long straight quillons with twisted decoration. Hemispherical shell finely decorated with birds on a leafy background, all chased and pierced with daylight. Beautiful blade with gutter at the heel, partly engraved. Italy, 17th century. Blade length 119 cm. A.B.E. (small missing shell and repair to body knot).
