Null Roth, Dieter. Motorcyclist. Motorcyclist. Wind-up toy mounted on chipboard …
Description

Roth, Dieter. Motorcyclist. Motorcyclist. Wind-up toy mounted on chipboard and covered with green acrylic paint. Signed and dated on the underside of the plate. 1969. dimensions: approx. 17 x 11 x 11.5 cm. Unique sculpture. - Dobke, Bücher + Multiples, 23 - Dobke, 1960-1975. 1969.41 ("unlimitierte Unikate") - Unnumbered, probably published outside the edition of 100. - "For him (Roth), the appeal of what is probably the most common figurative motif (motorcyclists) does not lie in the concepts connoted with motorcycling, such as youth, freedom and independence. He has also never ridden a motorcycle himself. He uses the symbol because of his indifference (correction Roth: 'ambivalence?'): Roth sees in it both a motorcyclist, a heart shape and a stylized male gender (fax to the Verfaser 1.11.1996)." (Dobke, Melancholischer Nippes, p. 61). - Acrylic broken between base and toy, probably remounted later. - Provenance: Estate of Rudolf Rieser.
