Description

Master, Ludwig. Untitled. (Dance around the atom). Oil on hardboard. Signed "Ludw. Meister Durzak" and dated lower right, mounted handwritten note on paper verso. 1950, dimensions of the painting: 52.5 x 74 cm. In his painting, which at first glance primarily shows mythological figures, animals, naked ladies dancing in a round dance and men eating, Ludwig Meister breaks with a major theme of the 1950s: The atom. In addition to the constant fear of nuclear war, there was worldwide euphoria about the peaceful use of nuclear power. Atom - powder keg or "the principle of hope" (Bloch, 1955)? The painter seems to be asking this question in his oil painting, thus combining the modern question with a classical motif. - Rubbed, stronger in the outer area, rarely with small losses of color.
