Description

Höller, Carsten. Untitled. (Reindeer). Color serigraph and photogravure on laid paper. Signed, dated and numbered in pencil. Copy: 48/55. 2010. Image size: 54 x 49.5 cm. Sheet dimensions: 77 x 68 cm. Expressive work by the artist Carsten Höller (born 1961), known primarily for his object and installation works. The reindeer and the toadstool embody central elements of Höller's artistic practice. Both serve as a symbol for the ritual substance "Soma", which is already sung about in one of the founding scriptures of Hinduism and which is said to enable access to the divine sphere through consumption. According to Höller, this state could be approximated by consuming the psychoactive urine of reindeer after eating the fly agaric, which is non-toxic to them. Out of a deep fascination, Höller addresses these connections in many of his experimental works, including one of his largest installations "Soma" (2010/2011) at Hamburger Bahnhof. - Mounted on card at the corners verso, in very good condition.
