Description

Spoerri, Daniel. Edition MAT. Multiplication d'oeuvres d'art. With signed dedication and handwritten comments by George Brecht as well as some illustrations. Circa 1960. 9 pp. 16 x 51 cm. Black stapled original brochure (double folded somewhat irregularly, somewhat stained and scratched). Rare early catalog to Spoerri's edition MAT. - After moving to Paris in 1959, Spoerri pursued a new project: the "MAT" edition. Spoerri's intention was to produce the cheapest possible objects by various artists in series. These were not to be reproductions in the usual sense, but multiplied originals, primarily kinetic objects. The idea was more important than the artist's personal signature. (Cf.: Katerina Vatsella: "Edition MAT. 1998). - With an introduction in French on the title page and one illustrated page each on the artists Jacoov Agam, Pol Bury, Marcel Duchamp, Bruno Munari, Dieter Roth, Jésus-Raphael Soto, Jean Tinguely and Victor Vasarely, who are each represented with an object. Four pages with handwritten corrections and comments by George Brecht. Last sheet with a signed greeting on the verso, presumably to Rudolf Rieser: "une petite livre ... pour toi - write, if you want to - George Brecht". - Double folded somewhat irregularly throughout, slightly stained in places.
