Rare marine celestial globe from a captain's estate. London, 1920, marked "The Husun Star Globe, H. Hughes & Son LTD, London, 1920", the globe as a plaster-covered papier-mâché sphere covered with 12 lithographed paper segments, the sphere mounted in a mahogany wood box so that it can rotate freely, horizon ring made of engraved brass with cardinal points and 4 x 90° graduation, brass semicircle with graduation and inscription "The Paget Star Globe, H. Hughes & Son LTD, London No. 1256", with original instructions for use mounted in the lid. Globe diameter: approx. 18 cm. Transport box dimensions: approx. 25 x 27 x 27 cm. According to the consignor and enclosed documents, the globe comes from the estate of Captain Adolf Herz. Herz was a Malamok member of the German section of the Amicale Internationale des Capitaines au Long-Cours Cap Horniers from 1963. In his early seafaring days, he was on a privateer voyage under Felix Graf von Luckner with the SMS Seeadler and circumnavigated Cap Horn with her. Rare celestial globe for nautical instruction.
