Asia - Japan - Japanese photo album with 17 large format photographs, mostly of kimonos. Vintages. Silver gelatin. Mounted. Nara, around 1900. 28.5 x 39 cm. Cord-stitched silk binding with cover and spine label (heavily stained, cover with numerous losses, labels faded). The professional photographs in the format 20.4 x 26.7 cm probably show presentations of goods by a Japanese merchant. Kimonos hanging on walls can be seen in 11 of the photographs, and other decorated goods such as blankets, combs, fans, dolls, bags, shrines, mortars, shoes, etc. in 5 of the photographs. The last photo shows a street scene with traditionally dressed Japanese people in a kind of procession led by a Japanese man with a bowler and some onlookers. - All photos with dry stamp in one corner "M.
