Drawing school - Meurer, Moritz. Plant forms. Exemplary examples for the introduction to the ornamental study of plants with explanatory text. Plates each with 2 or 3 explanatory leaves. 40 x 28 cm. Loose sheets in original half-linen folder (stained and somewhat bumped, front hinge torn at bottom approx. 10 cm, without most of the leaves). Only edition. - Rare original work by the painter Moritz Meurer (1839-1916). From 1892 to 1895 Meurer traveled with students, including Karl Blossfeldt, to Italy, Greece and North Africa to compile a botanical specimen collection. During this trip, on Meurer's advice, Blossfeldt began to take photographs of plant objects as illustrative material, with which Blossfeldt later became one of the most important representatives of New Objectivity. - The double-sheet-sized plates are numbered twice, so that a total of 85 plates are listed in the index. - 12 plates more heavily browned due to paper, otherwise only faintly browned and occasionally slightly stained, edges slightly bumped in places.
