Description

*JONONE, John Andrew Perello dit (b. 1963) "Choices, 2016". Acrylic and ink on canvas. Signed, titled, dated on the back. Unique piece. Height 120 cm - Width 160 cm Note : Born in the Harlem district of New York to a family of Dominican origin, JonOne began his graffiti activities as a teenager. A self-taught freedom seeker, he gradually developed his own artistic practice, which led him to become a leading figure in his hometown's street art scene in the 1980s, alongside artists such as the emblematic Jean-Michel Basquiat, Dondi White and Anthony Clark, aka AOne. Following in his footsteps, JonOne moved to Paris in 1987 and worked with him at the Hôpital éphémère, where he tried his hand at painting on canvas without giving up graffiti. The artist became increasingly well-known in France and Europe, notably through his participation in two major exhibitions: Galerie Gleditsch 45 in 1990 and Paris Graffiti, rue Chapon, in 1991. From then on, his reputation spread worldwide. In recent years, JonOne has been asked to contribute to the creations of major brands such as Lacoste and Guerlain. A public figure as well as a committed one, the artist has supported the Fondation Abbé Pierre on several occasions - a 1984 Rolls-Royce Corniche model painted by him was sold for €128,500 by Artcurial on January 22, 2013 (sale 2161, lot 81). Provenance: Galerie Bruger-Rigail - 40 rue Volta - 75003 Paris.
