19th century English school Emblems of Scotland, 1801. Enhanced aquatint engraving. 31.5 x 24 cm Framed under a glass painted with an oval and the inscription Scotland (peinture sous verre) Gilded wooden stick. On the back of the frame, "Emblem of Scotland / Published June 1 1801 by J. Petit Latimer House, Hammersmith, near London". Tears (barely visible once the engraving has been positioned under the glass). Scotland is symbolized by a muse bearing a Scottish flag with a St. Andrew's cross and a sprig of thistles, surrounded by a little boy in a kilt playing the bagpipes and a unicorn.
