Switzerland Bleuler, Johann Heinrich - the Elder Lake Lungeren in the canton of Unterwalden. Circa 1815. Gouache on artist's board. 28 x 39.5 cm. Signed "gez. & painted by Joh. Hein. Bleuler", titled and inscribed "in Feuerthalen bey Schaffhausen". Framed in black and gray gouached border. Mounted in spots on support and framed under glass. - Verso traces of former mounting. The upper left corner with slight traces of moisture, the paper barely noticeably wavy there. Very good overall. Idyllic and atmospheric view of Lake Lungern in vivid colors. Bleuler the Elder was known for his picturesque views of Swiss lakes and landscapes; here he depicts Lake Lungeren. The painter from Schweit lived and died in Feuerthalen and Lake Lungeren was his home lake, so he often chose this motif. However, Bleuler also traveled through the cantons of Switzerland and his works have a veduta-like quality, which he very often expressed in gouaches. Gouache on board.
