OUmschlag, together with tin cast in orange OLwd. cassette. One of 40 copies of the special edition, signed and numbered by Whiteread. The zinc cast wrapped in a numbered textile cover. - For this edition, Rachel Whiteread was invited to select a book of particular importance to her, for which she then designed a new dust jacket and presented it under her own name as a "reprint". In this case, the artist has chosen Mike and the Modelmakers' by M. Sasek, which was published in 1970. Whiteread's London studio was located opposite the Lesney company, which was the toy manufacturer of the Matchbox car in the 1970s. "I chose this book because it is related to where I live and how I work. My old studio was next to the site of the original matchbox factory. As a child I played with matchbox cars, now my children play with them. A lot of those industrial buildings have been demolished in readiness for the 2012 Olympics. I found an original copy of this book in a junk store in the late 1980's, it seemed like a fitting tribute to those old buildings and the author / illustrator M.Sasek and to those great matchbox cars.
