Syria and Palestine Bonfils, Felix Album with 108 large-format OPhotographs with images from Syria and Palestine. Late 19th century. Each albumen print on photographic paper. Dimensions approx. 22 x 28 cm each. Most with imprinted inscription, numbering and signature. Each firmly mounted in a splendid 4° landscape leather album of the period with mounted decorative frame and gilt title on front cover, floral gilt inner edges, silk endpapers with floral weaving and gilt edges on three sides. Probably a privately compiled album from a trip to Palestine and Syria in 1892 (DTitel). The photographs show: Panorama and market scene of the port city of Jaffa. - Several photographs of Jerusalem, including the Damascus Gate, the Citadel of David, the interior of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre with the Stone of Anointing, the Church of Mary Magdalene on the Mount of Olives, etc. - A view of Bethany (present-day Al-Eizariya). - Pilgrims in Bethlehem and other shots of interiors, market scenes, etc. - A Bedouin camp. - The Damascus Gate and the Temple of Jupiter in Damascus, etc. - A panoramic view of Beirut, with the Lebanon Mountains in the background. - The ancient ruins in Palmyra. - Dome of Baalbek. - Portrait of a Syrian Bedouin shepherd in splendid costume a.o. - With mounted, partly colored map of Palestine (Kiepert, Reimer, 1891) and enclosed 2 folded fol.
