Copies. - This manuscript, produced for Archbishop Egbert of Trier around the year 990 in the scriptorium of Reichenau Abbey, is considered the pinnacle of Ottonian book illumination and was declared a "Memory of the World" by UNESCO. As a pericope book or evangelistary on 165 leaves, it depicts the readings from the four Gospels in the course of the church year. Each pericope begins with a large initial I, which is filled with a braided band of gold and silver. - In impeccable condition. One of 980 numbered copies. - 2 vols. (facs. and comm.) With richly illuminated illustrations. In splendid binding. - Very good condition.
