Bavaria Ludwig Ferdinand of Bavaria Handwritten dedication with signature of the Prince of Bavaria below a mounted portrait photograph. Portrait photograph. 1918. photo (vintage, albumen print) approx. 16 x 11.8 cm. Framed under glass (unopened). To my dear colleague Stabsarzt Dr. Kämpfer, the proven head of my medico-mechanical station, in recognition of his outstanding services with heartfelt affection. - Ludwig Ferdinand von Bayern (1859-1949), a grandson of King Ludwig I, was a specialist in surgery and gynecology and, during the First World War, head of the surgical department of the Munich garrison hospital. - Prince Ludwig Ferdinand was also a close confidant of Ludwig II of Bavaria. This is evidenced by invitations to him and his wife to Herrenchiemsee Palace and the Winter Garden of the Munich Residence, to which Ludwig II only granted access to a select few. The prince was also the recipient of what was probably Ludwig II's last letter, in which he was informed of the king's attempted arrest at Neuschwanstein Castle. - Photo with photographer's signet Lützel Munich and blindstamped dat. 1918 - Backing board (with blindstamped crown) with dampstain in upper and upper lateral margin, photo slightly faded, otherwise generally in good condition. Autograph dedication signed by the Prince of Bavaria below a mounted portrait photograph.
