Born in 1934, Nguyễn Văn Minh graduated top of his class from the Gia Dinh School of Fine Arts in 1958. A renowned master lacquerer, he devoted a long period to perfecting his lacquer technique, notably during his training at the National Industrial Arts and Research Institute in Kyoto and Sendai between 1961 and 1962. Recognized for his mastery of this material, in 1967 he produced a large lacquer for the interior decoration of the Vietnamese presidential palace, entitled "Bình Ngô Đại Cáo". In the early part of his career, together with painter Nguyễn Văn Trung, he founded a workshop specializing in lacquer, of which he was the director. In 1975, he migrated to the United States, where his work met with great success. He subsequently held numerous exhibitions in the USA, France, Belgium, Italy and Vietnam. His success continues to this day, as he spends over 60 years passionately pursuing his lacquer work, and his works are sought after by collectors in Vietnam and abroad. Họa sĩ Nguyễn Văn Minh sinh năm 1934 tại làng Bình Hòa, Gia Định. Tốt nghiệp Thủ khoa trường Mỹ thuật Gia Định 1958, sau đó, ông liên tục được các học bổng sang Nhật huấn luyện thêm về kỹ thuật tranh sơn mài tại National Industrial Arts and Research Institute tại cố đô Kyoto và Sendai. Ông là giám đốc xưởng sơn mài Mê Linh nổi tiếng tại Sài Gòn trước năm 1975, sáng lập cùng họa sĩ Nguyễn Văn Trung. Năm 1975, ông lìa quê hương cùng với gia đình. Trong suốt 30 năm ở Mỹ, ông tiếp tục theo đuổi sự nghiệp hội họa sơn mài. Thập niên 1980, ông mở phòng triển lãm tại Georgetown, tham dự cũng như tổ chức rất nhiều cuộc triển lãm khắp nước Mỹ và Âu Châu. Thành công của ông hiện nay vẫn còn vang dội, ông dành hơn 60 năm say mê theo đuổi sáng tác sơn mài và các tác phẩm của ông được các nhà sưu tập trong và ngoài nước săn đón.
