A teacher, he was the founder of the Ligue Française de l'Enseignement. He was convinced that without education you could not become a republican. He set up many libraries in France. At the end of his life, he saw his dream come true: the creation of free, compulsory, secular state schools. Senator in 1883. Autograph letter signed 21.02... Rodolphe Töpffer (1799-1846) - Zig-zag journeys of a boarding school on vacation in Switzerland, by Töpffer. Published by Dubochet. 1843. Lemercier printer. 67.4x53cm. Original poster, lithograph, mounted on paper. Condition A-, minor foxing and marginal tears. Swiss-born Töpffer was a true intellectual and philanthropist. A writer, polemicist, draughtsman and teacher, he was noted for the importance he gave to the travels and excursions of his pupils, and later his boarders. He compiled his accounts in "voyages en zig-zag". He is also considered by some to be the creator of the comic strip, having invented in the 1827s the picture stories that Goethe adored.

ADRIEN DUPAGNE (Liège, Belgium, 1889-1980). "The representation", 1956. Oil on canvas. Presents label on the back. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Measurements: 90 x 70 cm; 102 x 82 cm (frame). Adrien Dupagne was a student of Adrien de Witte, Oscar Berchmans and Évariste Carpentier at the Academy of Fine Arts of Liege, he graduated as a sculptor in 1910 and stood out as an excellent designer. He followed the advice of his teachers and learned to paint. His pictorial training was forged by visiting museums and studying the old masters. In 1912 he was in London and worked as a sculptor in the decoration of the Titanic; in 1913 he was in Paris, where he visited regularly, the Paris school that was his source of inspiration. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne. He also exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1924 and in London. He exhibited successively at Devambez, Berheim Jeune, Georges Aubry. Throughout his career he visited all of Europe, as well as the Middle East, North Africa and remained in Oregon at the age of 65, from where he brought back numerous drawings, watercolors and paintings, witnesses of the life of the countries he visited. His works are exhibited in museums in Brussels, Antwerp, Liège and he also exhibited in Riga during his lifetime.

PEDRO JOSÉ BARCELÓ OLIVER (Mallorca, 1884-1969). "Majorcan coast", 1923. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated in the lower left corner. Measurements: 41 x 53 cm; 50 x 61 cm (frame). Pedro José Barceló Oliver was initially formed as an artist in his native Majorca, under the mastery of Ricardo Ankerman, although later he would continue his studies in the School of Painting of Madrid, where he graduated as a teacher. He participated in several group exhibitions, and took part in the Franco-Spanish Exhibition in Zaragoza in 1908, where he won a silver medal. He worked for a time in Madrid, as a drawing teacher, until he gave up teaching to devote himself exclusively to painting. Once again settled in Palma, he became director of the School of Arts and Crafts of the city.

LEROLLE Henri (1848-1929) Album amicorum "Alphonse Giroux" binding, Italian format Cover engraved "P. B." An ink drawing of a portrait of a man, signed lower right "Ph. Rourt 1943", and a Latin book page with print are included. Impressionist painter and major collector. He joined Lamothe's studio in 1864 (his teachers included Degas and Henri Régnault). He debuted at the Salon in 1868 and in 1890 joined the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, becoming one of its founders. He is represented in several museums in France and the United States.
