HISTORY - BERTHIER Louis Alexandre (1753 - 1815) - Autograph letter signed
Major General of the Versailles Guard in 1789, Chief of Staff to La Fayette, Luckner and the Army of Italy, he became Bonaparte's Chief of Staff in 1796. He was Minister of War from 1800 to 1807, and Major General of the Grande Armée from 1805 to 1814. Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor. Allied with Louis XVIII during the Hundred Days, he took refuge in Bamberg, Bavaria. Autograph letter signed, dated 19.07.1810. "J'ai reçu, Monsieur le Comte, avec la lettre que vous m'avez fait l'honneur de m'écrire la médaille frappée à l'occasion du Mariage de Sa majesté [Napoléon et Marie Louise]…”.
