HISTORY - FAURE Félix (1841 - 1899) - Autograph letter signed

President of the Republic from 1895 to 1899, to whom Emile Zola addressed the letter "J'accuse". He warmly supported colonialism. French troops annexed Madagascar in 1896. Two years later, after annexing the Ivory Coast and the lands along the Niger, France planned to join Dakar to Djibouti. This failed. F. Faure established links with Russia. Nicholas II came to Paris. He was the first foreign sovereign to visit France after the 1870 war. The following year, Faure visited St Petersburg. He died in the arms of his mistress. Autograph letter signed Paris, 29.12.1889 to Paul Langer Senior :"… Je verrai avec plaisir que votre protégé pût bénéficier de la mesure de clémence qu'il sollicite …"; 3 signed documents.
