Description
HISTORY - FRANÇOIS I (1494 - 1547) - Letter signed
He wasn't destined to become king. It took a combination of circumstances to make that happen. He was a cultured man who spoke three languages and was interested in discoveries. On 18.05.1514, he married Claude, the daughter of Louis XII. After several deaths, he was crowned King of France in Reims on 25.01.1515. He dreams of conquering territories in Italy. After Marignan, he was declared Duke of Milan. In 1519, he thought of becoming emperor, but Charles V was elected. He brought Leonardo da Vinci to court. He had castles built or refurbished: Chambord, Blois, Fontainebleau. He imposed French as the official language and introduced civil status. Rare and fine letter dated March. 26 1538 to his advisor Gian Giacomo Trivulzio. He asks him to ensure that the Pope appoints François d'Acigne to the Abbey of Saint-Mahé. (most probably signed by his secretary)
