Exceptional 1854 grosse cavalerie type senior officer's or general's stud saber by Manceaux, Paris: Four-pronged brass hilt, entirely chased and gilded with laurel leaves on the outside and inside, plate decorated on the edges with a frieze of laurel leaves, a floral motif with two lion heads and, on the quillon, two opposing horse heads surrounded by acanthus leaves and a palmette, below the plate, the same laurel frieze with fleurons, equipped with a scabbard entrance, pommel entirely chased with foliage, foliage and flowers and adorned, on the top, with the head of Hercules wearing the head of the remains of the Nemean lion, lower ring of the spindle chased with a sort of scales, brown horn spindle, silver twisted filigree; double-throated straight blade, hallmarked at the heel and signed on the back: "Manufre de Châtellerault juin 1855", tip in the middle, length 95 cm; white polished iron scabbard with two small bracelets engraved with a border, signed at the top, on the back: "Manceaux à Paris", cut-out stinger; total length 114 cm; it is presented with a round black silk lanyard, senior officer's tassel in gold passementerie. Second Empire period. Very good, near-new condition.
