Very curious and rare officer's saber of the Albanian infantry regiment in the service of France, silver hilt, Albanian work with rocaille and pearls of characteristic shape; curved, flat-backed blade, decorated with a groove at the heel and then two grooves along the back bearing unidentified markings (resembling: "N"); leather-covered wooden scabbard, with two large hallmarked silver fittings and two fillet-engraved bracelets, French manufacture; length 91.5 cm. First Empire period. Very good condition. An Albanian infantry regiment served France in Corfu and Epirus in 1809 and 1813. See the saber of general MARKOS BOTZARIS (1788/1823), reproduced in Musée de l'Armée: Napoléon et ses soldats, n° 7, page 54. hallmarks: on the hilt, the faisceau de licteur des départements, 1798/1809, on the limb, left outer side; on the scabbard, hallmark with cock 2nd title of the départements, 1798/1809; large guarantee of the départements; silversmith: "J L" in a lozenge.
