Lieutenant d'artillerie, very interesting work concerning the main rifle systems used in Europe, circa 1874, with ten detailed color plates, and texts in three languages including French, histories and explanations of the operation of each weapon; the following systems are presented: Remington ; Werder; Dreyse; Chassepot; Werndl; Vetterli; Martini-Henry; Berdan; Peabody-Martini; Beaumont; Krnka and Carlé & Sohn; Italian-style binding in blue boards; published in Stockholm by A. L. Normans, 1874; dedicated to King Oscar II; 42 x 62.5 cm. (Mottling; wear to binding). The flyleaf bears an autograph dispatch: "À son excellence Mr le général de Cissey, Ministre de la guerre en France, hommage du plus grand respect. The author". Circa 1874. Fairly good condition. General COURTOT de CISSEY (Paris 1810/1882), brigadier general after the battle of Inkermann (1854), soldier and statesman, Minister of War from June 1871 to May 27, 1873 and from May 22, 1874 to August 15, 1876; deputy in 1871; irremovable senator 1874/1878.
