Officer's flintlock rifle from the Manufacture de Versailles, octagonal, slightly blunderbussed barrel, blued, signed on the upper side: "BOUTET DIRECTEUR ARTISTE", fixed thunderbolt frog, adjustable rear sight, 14 mm caliber, hair rifled alternating with nine large rifling marks, 48 cm long; plain breech; flat-body lock scalloped and cut on the rear, signed: "MANUFRE À VERSAILLES", swan-neck hammer, adjustable trigger tail; cut-out iron fittings, engraved counterplate screws and rosettes; cheekpiece walnut stock, carved with foliage, checkered grip; fruitwood ramrod terminating in turned iron tip; overall length 86 cm. (Blue probably reworked). Directoire period, circa 1795/1798. Very good condition. This rifle model is close to those offered by the Manufacture de Versailles to the Directors, but a little simpler.
