Description
Very rare 1815 model flag eagle, in chased and gilded bronze, known as "des Cent-jours", March 1815/June 1815, probably designed by Chaudet and commissioned from Thomire-Duterne et compagnie. This eagle has lost its casing and cartridge case, and may have been rescued during or after the fighting at Waterloo; height approx. 20.5 cm, width approx. 23 cm. It is presented on a small wooden base. Period 1815, Cent-Jours. Good condition. Very few examples are known, they were delivered to the Champ de Mai, on June 1, 1815 for the army (approx. 206 eagles), and to the Tuileries on June 4, 1815 for the National Guard (87 eagles). Most of the National Guard's 1815 eagles were taken by the British, and 67 are in the Wellington Museum collection in London, complete with flag. London, complete with flag.
