Souvenir of the 1924 Paris Olympics: Manufacture de Sèvres, Messrs. Octave Denis Victor Guillonnet (1872/1967) and Émile Braquemond: porcelain vase in the form of a small amphora, blue enameled with brown laurel branches, enhanced with gold; body decorated with four round medallions symbolizing : fencing, horseback riding (polo player), pelote basque and parallel bar in gymnastics; the athletes in white paste on a light grey background; body decorated with white biplanes on a light grey background; it is signed on the base: "O. D. V GUILLONNET INV - BRAQUEMOND", "S. 1924 D N", "R F - MANUFACTURE NATIONALE - DÉCORÉS À SÈVRES 1924" and "MADE IN FRANCE"; height 33 cm, diameter 15 cm. (Significant cracks restored). Circa 1924. Good condition. These vases were created for the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris; there were four models, the medallions representing other disciplines, ours is no. 3; they were presented by the Seine department and the city of Paris to the gold medalists. Due to the late date of delivery of these vases, they were sent to their foreign recipients via the embassies and legations of the countries concerned; the others were given to French athletes. A total of 309 vases were ordered and delivered. In accordance with the new I. O. C. rules of 1924, these were the last gifts to be given to the winning athletes in their discipline.
