Very rare bronze patriotic award armband buckle, curved, entirely pierced with daylight around the circumference of the inscription: "LE PRIX DU PATRIOTISME FRANÇAIS" (THE FRENCH PATRIOTISM AWARD); the pins for fastening the armband in tricolor fabric are steel; height 86.5 mm, width 78.5 mm. Revolutionary period. Very good condition. These buckles were made to be awarded to citizens who had donated their jewelry or silverware to the fatherland in danger. PROVENANCE: SARTEL collection. An identical buckle was on display at the Musée Monétaire in Paris, during the exhibition Ordres de chevalerie et récompenses nationales, March 20 - May 30, 1956; catalog no. 582, reproduced on plate XLV1 (former LAISSUS collection).
