Oil on panel signed lower left: "W. Beauquesne": wounded cuirassier protecting his flag, attacked by crows, probably symbolizing the enemy; beautiful molded and gilded frame; 41 x 33 cm (frame slightly missing). Circa 1870/1880. Good condition BEAUQUESNE Wilfrid-Constant, French painter, born in Rennes on October 28, 1840, † in Montgeron in 1913; pupil of Horace VERNET and Émile VERNET-LECOMTE at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Painter of military pictures, mainly of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.
