Bronze icon of the Protection of the Virgin. Russia, 18th century. In the upper part, the Virgin, turned three-quarter toward the Savior, carries the protective veil in her arms. She is followed by chosen saints and angels. In the lower section, the interior of the Blachernes church: in the center, on the platform, Saint Romain le Mélode with the scroll unrolled. On the right, Saint Andrew Salos shows the Virgin Mary to his disciple Epiphanius. On the left stand Patriarch Taraise and Emperor Constantine. Empress Helena is opposite at the right-hand edge.
