NOTE Paintings and screens depicting tiger hunting were fashionable among Korean military officers, who favored representations showing the skill and bravery of hunters. Hunting provided important training for the army in peacetime. Our painting refers to the period when Korea was a tributary state of the Mongol and Manchu Empires during the 13th and 14th centuries, and the 17th to 19th centuries.
