Pañuelo de ecaje atiguo de Almagro (Ciudad Real, España) siglo XIX

Antique circular lace handkerchief from Almagro (Ciudad Real, Spain) 19th century. Eleven equal lobes surround the central gauze of the handkerchief. Each of these lobes has a typical Almagro decoration, made at least since the beginning of the 17th century: consisting of a figure like a sun or star inscribed in a circumference, in turn surrounded by eight lobes like floral petals. The main pattern of sixteen arms forming the sun or star mentioned above (alternating thick and thin arms) is a decoration that is still used today in lace made in Almagro (see our last photograph, corresponding to a modern lace preserved in the Almagro Lace Museum). Slight old stain on the central gauze that does not affect the lace. Good preservation.
