ROMAN GOLD RING WITH CAMEO OF A GORGON

Ca. AD 100 - 300. A Roman 21 ct gold ring with a turquoise faience cameo shaped like a gorgon head. The curls fall across the forehead while the face is depicted wide with the mouth open and the tongue out. The hoop is composed of a flat section expanding at the shoulders, with adorned fleur de lis motif joining the shoulders to the bezil. For similar see: El Legado de Hefesto n. 271.
