HELLENISTIC GOLD EARRINGS WITH ANIMAL PROTOMES

Ca. 400 - 200 BC. A pair of 21 ct earrings with tapering hoops of spiraled plain and beaded wires that hook through a loop on the underside of the protomes. A collar of twisted wire tongues is joined to a plain section with twisted and plain filigree wires. For similar see: Christie's, Live Auction 2491, Ancient jewellery, Lot. 366. This piece has undergone X-ray fluorescence analysis to confirm the metallurgical content suggesting its ancient origin and lack of modern trace elements.
